Occupational opportunities
Agriculture is an important sector in the rural areas of the Shire, and employs a significant proportion of the work force. Bacchus Marsh and Ballan’s employment needs are supported by the community and town centre service sectors, whilst the construction industry is an important sector due to Moorabool’s growing population.

The following findings are revealed in the ‘Growing Moorabool Economic Development Strategy 2006’.
Comparisons of employment growth by occupation from 1991 to 2001 revealed strong growth (35%) for Moorabool. In 1991, the Shire’s labour market comprised 7,568 participants and this rose to 10,253 by 2001.
The occupational groupings that increased the most proportionately and in order of significance were: intermediate clerical, sales and service workers (88%), associate professionals (81%), tradespeople and related workers (35%) and professionals (34%).
