Funding launches structure plan for Bacchus Marsh

Long term vision for Bacchus Marsh funded by State Government
Moorabool Shire Council has received $100,000 towards the
development of the Bacchus Marsh Central Activity Structure Plan.
These funds come from the State Government’s Creating Better
Places Scheme.
The Bacchus Marsh Central Activity Structure Plan is a key
recommendation of Council’s Policy of ’Growing
Moorabool, Economic Development Strategy and Action Plan - Growing
Jobs’ which recommends a concentrated centre of activity in
the core of Bacchus Marsh that includes extra retail, offices,
community and service industries, medical and professional suites
and a range of residential offerings.
The central core of Bacchus Marsh is a pivotal component of
Council’s vision for Bacchus Marsh. Council believes a
vibrant and diverse town centre will underpin the growth of Bacchus
Marsh’s population and economic growth. It will declare an
area use direction and will outline clear lifestyle statements.
The area between the railway station up to and including the main
street and commercial centre is earmarked for a structure plan to
guide growth and ensure that development in Bacchus Marsh is
coordinated and supports both economic and social opportunities for
the town’s community. It will also support other policy
directions such as ensuring strategic links to the town centre and
outlying growth areas with pedestrian, cycling and road
networks.
The recommendation for a structure plan emanated from an economic
development strategy. Council also aims to ensure that development
supports the healthy and enjoyable lifestyle opportunities already
prominent in Bacchus Marsh. Council wants to celebrate the existing
culture and heritage that abounds in Bacchus Marsh. Council
envisages pedestrian and cycling boulevards, quality open space and
an increased range of housing offerings to support lifestyles that
stimulate community well being.
Focusing on the town’s railway station, the development will
also ensure that environmental assets such as the Werribee River
are enhanced for the enjoyment of the community and that Bacchus
Marsh’s development is in line with the global and
local environmental issues.
