Ballan Main Street project
The Ballan Urban Design Framework 2003 provides a vision for
Ballan, and promotes viable and sustainable development to ensure
that Ballan is attractive, convenient and accessible for residents
and visitors. The Ballan Main Street project involved
extensive community consultation, and identified
a number of key project opportunities.
Moorabool Shire Council has completed the first stage of
revitalisation (Department of Sustainability and Environment Pride
of Place Programme), being the redevelopment of McLean Reserve.
Stage 2 of the Ballan Main Street project aims to further
engender pride in the town by:
[1] Development of a community space at the front of the
Mechanics Institute that promotes social
engagement in the Main Street and community art (community hub)
[2] Physical improvements linking this community space and McLean
Reserve, including new paving, street furniture and
landscaping to improve amenity
[3] Interpretive signage identifying and promoting:
[a] local businesses and tourism opportunities (located at
McLean Reserve); and
[b] community facilities, organisations and events (located at the
Mechanics Institute)
