Arts & culture
The Shire of Moorabool recognises the value and contribution of arts and culture to leisure, social and economic well-being, and local character.
A number of acclaimed artists reside in the Shire and a number of sites and features of cultural significance have been identified. Stakeholder and community arts groups such as the Wombat Regional Arts Network are also active and Council has a small collection of art works held in community buildings.
Arts, Culture and Events Advisory Committee
The Arts, Culture and Events Advisory Committee foster and promotes the talents of artistic people within Moorabool and actively supports and encourages arts, culture and events.
Members meet every two months to make recommendations to Council about:
- Culture, Arts and Events policy
- Culture, arts and events facilities
- Development, promotion and education on culture arts and events within the Shire
- Cross fertilisation of culture, arts and events with other aspects of Shire activities such as tourism, economic development, heritage
- Council funding of arts, culture and events
- A Civic program of arts acquisition, and the display and/or performance of art and arts activity
- Encourage the exchange of ideas and skills,
- Collaborate with local and regional artists, groups and communities,
- Support opportunities for communities to experience artistic and cultural activities and events from within the shire and further a field,
- Enhance connections between arts, culture and events and the areas of tourism, heritage, economic development and youth.
Community Arts Grants
Grants are available for community arts projects, activities or initiatives that link artists, creators or practitioners with local communities through small projects, publications, exhibitions, performances or other similar activities. Council provides an annual total of $20,000 to support community arts projects.
Community Events Grants
Community event organisations and community groups that organise events are invited to submit proposals for community events in Moorabool Shire. Council provides an annual amount of $20,000 to support community event organisations.
Moor Art Space

Moor Art Space is funded by Moorabool Shire Council and Central Highlands Regional Library Corporation. It is accessible to all artists, community arts organisation, students and any creative individual in the wider community that is based within the Moorabool Shire municipality. Located inside the Bacchus Marsh Library situated on Main St, Moor Art Space is situated in the heart of Bacchus Marsh’s CBD and is close proximity to local cafes and parks.
Moor Art Space’s main objective is to present artwork created by local artists and members of the community to enhance the creative environment in Bacchus Marsh. The gallery aims to provide opportunities for professional development and experience in exhibition practice in a local community venue. Moor Art Space is open to exploring and presenting a wide range of artforms and presents them in an accessible, friendly, and open environment to nurture local artists & designers to an audience across the region.
Tourism
Attractions come naturally to Moorabool and so do visitors. They come to marvel at the wonders Moorabool has to offer: Wombat State Forest, Lerderderg Gorge, Werribee Gorge and come to see the galleries, have a stroll through the beautiful towns.
