Road, rail & aviation

Moorabool boasts excellent transport links with the rest of Victoria's Major population centers and transport hubs, especially Melbourne, Geelong and Ballarat.

Bacchus Marsh is the closest town to Melbourne’s CBD outside the Melbourne urban growth boundary - closer than many suburbs located inside the Melbourne growth boundary.

The Shire is served by the Western Freeway and the Melbourne-Ballarat rail link.

Road

Moorabool Shire is conveniently linked via the toll free, doubled laned high speed (110kmph speed limit) Western Highway -  the main highway between Melbourne and Adelaide via Ballarat and Horsham. The Western Highway also hooks directly onto the road network to Geelong.

The recently opened Deer Park by-pass has substantially cut down travel down to and from Melbourne and road linkages will be further enhanced by the completion of the realignment of Anthony’s Cutting in 2012.

Rail

Bacchus Marsh Railway Station in Station St provides and easy 45 minute trip into Melbourne CBD via the Regional Fast Service Train. A little further down the line, the Ballan Railway Station in Steiglitz St will get you there fifteen minutes later. Both stations provide hundreds of free car parks for commuters.

Air

Moorabool is less than 50 minutes from Victoria's largest airports - Melbourne International and Avalon Airport. and both are accessable via toll free roads.

Bacchus Marsh Aerodrome

The Bacchus Marsh Aerodrome has three sealed cross strips, two in excess of 5,000 feet in length, with wide grass verges. Gliding clubs conduct a combined operation launching from the grass verges while the local power school operates simultaneously from the sealed runways.

The airfield is owned by Moorabool Shire Council and operated by Bacchus Marsh Aerodrome Management Inc, which comprises representatives of the Shire, the three resident gliding clubs, and the power flying school.

Land Leases on powered or unpowered sites are available at competitive rates. Contact the shire's Economic Development Department for more information on 03 5366 7100.
